There should be no half measures when it comes to sustainability. As a choice for business as much as for the planet, it must be embraced wholeheartedly.

At PowerSeraya, we see that it goes beyond the immediate environment, and that is why this report shows our commitment to sustainability in all its forms. At one level, that is reflected in our efforts to reduce our own carbon footprint, improve the energy efficiency of our generating business and diversify our fuel sources. At another, it shows itself in our use of renewable resources, be it water for our power plants or paper for our photocopiers.

For us, the environment is not just a principle or an abstract idea. It is what surrounds us every day, in our immediate community, in the many and varied stakeholders in our businesses, and in the long-term growth of the country. It is about people, too: we intend for our employees to enjoy a good work-life balance and for our customers, adopt intelligent energy use.

Above all, sustainability is about tomorrow. We invest in the future in many ways, from teaching schoolchildren about the environment to supporting bright youths to go to university, and to developing our own staff to achieve all they can with their careers.

It all adds up to sustainability as a company. By diversifying our businesses to become an integrated energy company, by growing good relationships with customers and suppliers, and by building staff loyalty, we hope that PowerSeraya – and the environment we care for – will thrive for many more annual Sustainability Reports to come.

The sustainability report is based on the Sustainability Reporting Guidelines of the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative), the de facto global standard for reporting. It has undergone an independant third party assurance process and a GRI Application Level check. This is a G3: B+ report covering all six indicator categories (Economic, Environmental, Society, Labour, Human Rights & Product Responsibility).
