“Our core value of ‘Nurture’ extends beyond the company to the community through the social programmes it provides for youths to develop themselves academically and socially.”
Nithiah Nandan Book Prize
This book prize was set up in 2007 in honour of the late Mr Nithiah Nandan, former executive secretary of the Union for Power and Gas Employees for his support for lifelong education and dedication to serving others before self. The Book Prize is open to the employees’ children (aged 10 to 24) who have shown exemplary performance outside of academic areas, with emphasis on community work, caring for the environment, music, arts and sport. In 2008, we awarded the first book prizes (worth S$1,000 each) to three deserving youths.
NTU Scholarships Programme
In 2008, the company established the NTU (Nanyang Technological University) Scholarship Programme, making it the first energy company to set up private support with NTU. This scholarship is a bond-free programme open to all second year students from selected courses at the College of Engineering, College of Science and the Nanyang Business School. Each year, between two and six outstanding undergraduates will be selected to receive this prestigious scholarship award worth S$8,000 per annum. To date, PowerSeraya has given out two awards. The awardees are also given internship opportunities at PowerSeraya where they can gain working experience through a structured, cross-functional on-the-job training programme.
Internships
Every year, we accept interns from tertiary institutions, who will be guided by a senior officer. Through this internship opportunity, the students can appreciate how their fields of study are applied in real working life. In FY06/07 to FY07/08, we had 10 interns.
