| “With our new desalination plant, PowerSeraya contributed to the sustainable development of the country by achieving water sufficiency.”
PowerSeraya has oil-fired steam plants and natural gas-fired, combined-cycle power plants (CCPP). The oil-fired steam plants use more carbon-intensive heavy fuel oils, while the CCPPs use less fuel-intensive natural gas. Burning fossil fuels at both kinds of plant to generate power results in the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. We have taken steps to reduce emissions of the two main types of gas produced in the course of our operations, carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide.
Our commitment to the environment in our plant operations can be found in the Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE) Policy.
The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Vision and the accompanying Environmental and Community Policy Statements were developed in the later part of 2008 (outside the reporting period) after taking into consideration the QHSE Policy, our stakeholders, our business association with carbon and our Core Values.
The Environmental Policy Statement stemming from the CSR Vision covers our commitment towards corporate-wide environmental initiatives with our internal and external stakeholders.
As a company certified with ISO 14001, we place emphasis on the environmental performance of our power plant operations. We identify its environmental aspects and impacts and implement procedures to ensure that significant environmental aspects (such as air emission, treated water discharge and waste disposal) are measured and controlled to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations. |
