“As a responsible company, we are incorporating more sustainable development initiatives in our forward plan.”

PowerSeraya Ltd’s strategic vision is to become an integrated energy company. Our main business is in electricity generation with a power-generating plant on Jurong Island, one of the world’s largest petrochemical hubs, in the south west of Singapore.

Our vision is to diversify into other commodities such as steam, cooling water, gas and oil trading as a means to broaden our revenue streams. In terms of electricity generation, we have a licensed capacity of 3,100MW. As of July 2008, the total registered capacity is 2,940MW.

The generation portfolio (by capacity) comprises about 68% oil-fired steam-turbine plants, 25% natural gas-fired combined-cycle plants and 7% diesel-fired open-cycle gas turbines. We are building two 379MW natural-gas-fired combined-cycle plants which are due for completion in the first half of 2010.

PowerSeraya sells all of its electrical output into Singapore’s competitive, wholesale National Electricity Market. Through our wholly owned subsidiary, Seraya Energy Pte Ltd, we provide electricity retail services in the contestable market in Singapore comprising mainly of commercial and industrial customers.

As part of our vision to become an integrated energy company, the company entered into the fuel-trading and oil-bunkering business through our wholly owned subsidiary PetroSeraya Pte Ltd, further complementing PowerSeraya’s power-generating business and Seraya Energy’s electricity retail business

Incorporating Sustainability

The growing focus on climate change places increasing pressure on governments to embark on a sustainable path towards reducing their carbon footprints. This in turn creates significant medium- to long-term climate change risks on organisations. PowerSeraya recognises these risks and has managed to turn them into opportunities where the company can transform itself into a more sustainable business model with the potential to reap economic rewards and deliver environmental as well as social benefits to the community in the long term.

For details on the sustainable energy message in relation to the integrated energy strategy, kindly refer to the Annual Report 2007/2008 (Chairman’s Message and Managing Director's Message).

For details on our strategic efforts to reduce our own carbon footprint, please refer to Section 6: 'Our Role in Climate Change'
