First CHWP Player in S.E.A. with new, first-of-its-kind Seawater Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant

desal-plant-1.jpg The new Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Desalination Plant in PowerSeraya was officially opened on 29 January 2008 by Dr Amy Khor, Senior Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.

The opening of the 10,000 m³/day Desalination Plant marks a significant milestone for the Company as PowerSeraya becomes self-sufficient in its water needs.

The SWRO Desalination plant was built at a cost of approximately S$20 million, and was delivered as an engineer-procure-construct (EPC) project by US-based CH2M HILL, a global full-service engineering, construction and operations firm. The SWRO system was supplied by GrahamTek Pte Ltd of Singapore.

Setting new standards in efficiency, the new Desalination plant is the world’s first to use highly advanced 16-inch (400 mm) large diameter membrane SWRO technology, in what will become a global reference point for the Desalination industry. Before the PowerSeraya Desalination plant, the current industry standard is an 8-inch (200 mm) diameter.

With the opening of the SWRO Desalination Plant and the addition of water into its business portfolio, PowerSeraya is able to further efficiencies through creating a Combined Heat, Water and Power (CHWP) platform for the Company, in its drive to become more diversified, competitive and environmentally-friendly.
